MacOS and Gnome are exploring and implementing new usability features -- for disruptive cats!
Now, don't get me wrong. I love cats. However, I get mad when the cat walks across the keyboard. I actually don't get mad at the cat. (I do train my cats to not walk across the keyboard),
I get mad at the idiot who approved of the broken UI standards
Here are some examples of problems
Instant change with no confirm dialogs
No trash bin
Unix command line tools that are subject to minor errors causing major distruction
file save dialogs that cause overwriting of files
And some solutions
Access control lists
CVS like systems
two handed dangerous short cuts.
confirmation dialogs with default set to safe option
OK apply cancel (and sometimes reset to defaults optiosn)
I intend to link this site to other usability and accessability research and advocasy sites, and list pressing problems and their workarrounds and solutions. --Aaron Peterson 206 334 5925
